About the artwork

A study is inspired by photographer Inge Prader's series Vienna, where textiles, movement, and classical references merge into dramatic compositions. This work is not a reproduction of the photograph, but a personal study of light, form, and craftsmanship.

The drawing was created using nothing but a single B2 graphite pencil, a deliberate limitation intended to explore how far tonal values and contrast can be pushed without varying the hardness of the pencil. At the same time, the subject presented a technical challenge in its own right. The many layers of fabric, folds, ornamentation, and intricate detail demanded precision throughout the entire process, despite the work measuring only A4.

The work is therefore as much about discipline as it is about the subject itself. Every tonal value has been built up gradually, and every detail must succeed both on its own and as part of the whole. The result is a study in patience, observation, and control. It explores how much depth, texture, and vitality can be achieved using the simplest of means.
