The noaidi was a spiritual guide and keeper of knowledge in traditional Sámi society, serving as a link between the human and spiritual worlds.
In this work, the noaidi holds a Sámi ceremonial drum, a central tool in noaidi practice. The symbols on the drum could represent people, animals, deities and different aspects of the Sámi worldview. Many of these drums were confiscated and destroyed during the Christianisation of Sápmi, and only a limited number of historical drums survive today.
