Stállu (Stallo) is a fearsome figure in Sámi storytelling tradition, often described as large, strong and dangerous. In the stories, he encounters humans as an adversary, but brute strength is not always enough; Stállu is often defeated through wit and cunning.
In this work, he is portrayed as a massive, almost primal figure. Stállu represents the brute force found in the stories, but also the contrast between physical strength and the human ability to outwit what appears to be superior.
